Unseasonably wet weather crimped Macarthur Coal ’s September quarter production, which fell 4.5 per cent to 1.3 million tonnes. Macarthur Coal has gained close to 12.9 per cent this year, helped by a rise in corporate activity in the energy sector. Solid demand for coal from India and China has also helped buoy stock in the company.
“The quarter was slightly weaker versus our estimates due to wet weather, but the market was aware of the weather’s impact and so results appear reasonable," UBS analyst Glyn Lawcock said.
