On the rooftop of the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, a bar tab was being racked up that would ultimately be sheeted home to unsuspecting folks in Ballarat.

That was July last year. The bill came to $354.96 and went straight onto the corporate card of a little-known Australian mining services firm, Aneles Mining Consultancy Services.
