Rio Tinto has put a $US2.4 billion ($3.3 billion) carrot in front of the Serbian government as it seeks support to build Europe’s biggest lithium mine at Jadar.

The push into Serbia came amid reports Britain’s Financial Conduct Authority was investigating Rio’s disclosures over massive cost and schedule blowouts on Mongolia’s $US6.75 billion Oyu Tolgoi copper expansion.
