New Hope Coal chief executive Rob Bishop says “phenomenal” thermal coal prices will likely rise further before they fall, meaning Tuesday’s record profit could be just the start.
Despite an 8 per cent decline in New Hope’s coal sales volumes over the past year, astronomically high coal prices drove a 12-fold profit surge to $983 million for the year to July.
