Multiplex heir and former Mineral Resources director Tim Roberts has emerged as the backer behind the debt-laden miner’s plan to launch its own private airline, MinRes Air.

An Airbus A319 aircraft painted in Mineral Resources livery has been flying workers between Brisbane and West Australia’s Pilbara mining district since January. The company plans to add a Perth-Pilbara service soon.
