Major lithium producers are split over an Albanese government proposal to set a floor price for the commodity as part of a plan to create a national stockpile of critical minerals and check China’s outsized market power.
While the government has yet to finalise the policy, Resources Minister Madeleine King has indicated that a price floor could be an essential part of the stockpile, offering miners a guaranteed amount for their minerals.
