Gold weakness frays investor nerves

Goldminers worldwide are facing a risk of further write-downs as the plunging price for the precious metal places a question mark around some reserves that were previously seen as economic.
However the softer Australian dollar has softened the pain for local miners, meaning the more immediate risks are of mine closures, delays to new projects, deferred exploration and slower debt repayment, according to analysts.
