Galaxy in the red as lithium world swims in spodumene

Lithium customers are holding double their normal levels of inventory but are only consuming it at half the normal rate, according to loss-making Australian exporter Galaxy Resources, suggesting the bear market for the battery mineral has further to run.

The gloomy outlook came as owner of Australia's original and most profitable lithium mine, Greenbushes, confirmed it was  scaling back an expansion of processing facilities at the mine to better align with weak demand.
