Coal shipments slump amid labour shortages, wet weather
Coal exports through Newcastle had the slowest start to the year since at least 2019 as wet weather and labour shortages hampered production.
Figures released by the port – Australia’s largest thermal coal facility – showed 31.8 million tonnes was shipped in the first three months of the year, down 10 per cent on the same period last year and 18 per cent lower than the first quarter of 2019.
