New Zealand coalminer Solid Energy will have a fight on its hands in the bid for Pike River Coal ’s West Coast mine, in which 29 men died last November.
More than 12 parties from Australia, Asia and the Americas have made unsolicited approaches to receiver PricewaterhouseCoopers regarding the sale. The Pike River coal seam has in-situ hard coking coal resources worth about $4 billion and $6 billion based on current coal prices, according to the receivers. Coal processing facilities and equipment are also up for sale.
