BHP pays record dividend, profit falls short

BHP has posted its best profit in five years and paid its biggest ever dividend, but the $US9.4 billion underlying profit was significantly lower than most analysts had expected.
The US78¢ final dividend was the biggest in BHP's history and ensured a record full year total dividend of $US2.35 per share.
