Battery manufacturers are scouting a possible restart of Western Australia's Ravensthorpe mine, which Canadian owner First Quantum says could be built on a new approach to marketing the mine's nickel and cobalt.

First Quantum flagged on Tuesday it was studying a restart of Ravensthorpe, which was shut in October 2017 on the back of weak nickel prices.
