Australian regional media bosses have lashed the government's new regulatory package and accused Communications Minister Paul Fletcher of failing to act on reforms that would secure the industry outside of metropolitan cities.

Upon releasing a green paper of government-endorsed policies in the media sector, Mr Fletcher did not present a proposal for regional media businesses, instead asking them to submit their own for review.
