Mark Scott warns media mergers are no silver bullet
Outgoing ABC managing director Mark Scott has warned that mergers between traditional Australian media companies will not generate the scale needed to compete with the likes of Google, Facebook, Apple and Netflix, or necessarily lead to growth.
In an interview with The Australian Financial Review, Mr Scott also revealed he had cautioned his successor, former Google executive Michelle Guthrie, that her "every utterance" could get the same kind of scrutiny from rival media organisations as those that come out of "the Vatican and the Kremlin".
