When a batch of 400-tonne beams left Patrick Tallon’s Western Australian workshop on a giant boat bound for Queensland, it was not an everyday event, in more ways than one.

“We are very conscious that this is not the kind of work that would ordinarily be done in Australia,” he says, with a tone of gratitude in his voice.
