Amcor’s $13 billion buyout of rival plastic packaging group Berry Global has been six years in the making. That’s when Amcor’s then-chief executive, Ron Delia, floated the idea of merging with the Indiana-headquartered plastic products manufacturer.
Ultimately, it was left to Delia’s successor, Peter Konieczny, to seal the deal for the Melbourne-founded business, which started life as the Australian Paper Mills Company in 1896 before going global.
