First settlement in battle over collapse of Arrium

Westpac, China’s Bank of Communications and Spain’s Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria have reached a settlement with former Arrium treasury employee Sarah Pearce, marking the first defendant in three legal actions arising out of the collapse of the steel maker to have the case against her dropped.

Ms Pearce gave evidence on March 19 and March 22. A settlement was reached after court on March 26 and lawyers for Ms Pearce will appear when the case returns on Tuesday to inform the judge.
