The silver train with yellow doors known as the XPT – express passenger train – stops traffic as it hurtles through a railway crossing, horn blaring, in the heart of Wagga Wagga, the city built on the banks of the brown waters of the Murrumbidgee River.

The first inhabitants of the region, the Wiradjuri people, believe the name Wagga Wagga refers to “many dances” or “a place of celebrations”.
