Queensland construction group Wagners hopes to deepen its relationship with Adani after securing an initial $35 million contract to operate a quarry that will supply materials to build the Indian energy giant's controversial $2 billion Carmichael coal mine.

Family-controlled Wagners has been in talks with Adani over potential work on the mine for more than a year despite pressure from activists opposed to the mine telephoning Wagners executives to warn the company's operations will be disrupted if it starts any work for the Indian conglomerate.
