Airlines face more scrutiny on Sydney Airport flight cancellations

Airlines using the heavily congested Sydney Airport will be forced to explain why they have cancelled flights in a bid to prevent them from manipulating the system to keep control of lucrative landing rights, the federal government says.

The government also plans to introduce a competitive process for selecting the slot manager at Sydney Airport with better governance arrangements to manage potential conflicts of interest.
