The Albanese government can expect a backlash from regional Queensland after $6 billion in dam projects, including the Hells Gates project, were scrapped in the budget.
The allocation of $2 billion for big urban road and rail projects in south-east Queensland will also agitate rural voters who believe the federal Labor government is more interested in the suburbs than the regions.
