When Ralph Highnam, the CEO of breast cancer specialist Volpara Health Technologies, was pursuing his his PhD in artificial intelligence at Oxford University, he wanted to help people rather than improve factory robotics.

A late breast-cancer diagnosis for the mother-in-law of this Oxford professor – and fellow Volpara director – Mike Brady, propelled Mr Highnam to get his doctorate in engineering science, specifically in breast imaging.
