Listed company chiefs say they are looking for sliding valuations across pockets of the share market to throw up fresh merger and acquisition opportunities, but stress any potential deals will have to stack up on a number of other fronts.

M&A activity has softened from a breakneck pace in recent months following interest rate rises and greater uncertainty about the global economic outlook, as both buyers and sellers wait to see where valuations will stabilise.
