NIB says plan to fix hospital pricing ‘crazy’ as funding tensions grow

NIB, one of the nation’s biggest health insurers, says a proposal to introduce a fixed-pricing model for procedures and services in private hospitals is “crazy” and would result in patients paying more for care.

The warning came as a second funding spat between a hospital operator and insurers broke out on Monday, underlining rising tensions within the healthcare sector as the Albanese government reviews the viability of the country’s 650 private facilities.
