High-profile chairman Mark Compton left the cancer care provider Icon Group four months after joining, just as one of the hottest sales processes of the year was kicking off.

Mr Compton joined Icon as chairman on January 4, but left in late April due to a perceived conflict of interest since he is also chairman of pathology giant Sonic Healthcare – a possible suitor of the cancer services group, according to several sources.
