Lawyers acting for the corporate regulator have alleged former Star Entertainment executives suggested using receipts for yachts, private jets and golf days to mislead a Chinese financial institution that transferred funds were not being used for gambling in its casinos.

Ruth Higgins, SC, representing the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, said China Union Pay and National Australia Bank had discussed their concerns about money coming into the casino. NAB, she alleged, rejected Star’s request to put ATMs in its Gold Coast casino in 2016.
