Star Entertainment hit with hefty fine, but keeps key Sydney licence

The NSW casino regulator has conceded pulling Star Entertainment’s licence to operate in Sydney would have resulted in the collapse of the entire company, allowing it to keep operating with a minor penalty instead.

But Philip Crawford, the Independent Casino Commissioner, said he was optimistic that the company – which also operates in Brisbane and the Gold Coast – would repair its cultural shortcomings under the leadership of its new chief executive, former Lendlease boss Steve McCann.
