Racing's shame should unite industry

It’s fitting that after a week spent engaged in predictable, parochial and puerile pissing contests about who has the biggest race meeting, horse racing authorities will be shocked back to reality by a confronting report on the mistreatment of the equine athletes at the heart of the industry.

The report on ABC's 7.30 program suggested the industry’s attempts to limit “wastage” – that is, race horses being killed in abattoirs and knackeries – are simply not working.
