Federal Court turns screws on AUSTRAC’s Crown prosecution

The Federal Court has put a rocket under the financial crime regulator’s prosecution of Crown Resorts for money laundering, instructing the casino giant to file a brief defence by the end of the month after a 15-month delay.

Justice Michael Lee said he could not believe the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) had agreed to Crown’s request to have until May to settle on agreed facts and admissions, and to prepare a defence.
