The Crown Resorts royal commission in West Australia could spark an overhaul of the state’s gambling laws if its investigation finds the regulator failed to properly scrutinise and prevent criminal activity at Crown’s Perth casino, says the inquiry head, former Supreme Court judge, Neville Owen.
In his opening remarks on the first day of public hearings, Commissioner Owen sketched out plans for the inquiry, which will determine the fate of the James Packer-backed casino giant’s suitability to hold a licence in the state.
