Crown Resorts chief executive Ken Barton has stepped down days after a damning report found the James Packer-backed gambling giant unsuitable to run its new casino in Barangaroo and Mr Barton not up to the job.

Crown chairman Helen Coonan will become executive chairman on an interim basis.
