Surging sales in North and Latin America have helped poker machine maker Ainsworth Game Technology meet analysts' expectations and offset a continuing decline in its local operations.

Almost 68 per cent of the group's profits were derived from the Americas in the 2016 financial year, said AGT chief executive Danny Gladstone, who added the Australian market "presented challenges" and that local revenue fell 12 per cent compared with 2015. "We expect continued growth in our international businesses in 2017. Sales in the Americas are growing well."
