An unprecedented cold snap in Texas and galloping recovery from the pandemic helped deliver an eye-watering pay packet for little-known Macquarie veteran Nick O’Kane.

Mr O’Kane has been catapulted into an elite group of the investment bank’s top earners after pocketing $26.3 million this year, nearly $5 million more than group chief executive Shemara Wikramanayake.
