Federal govt in talks with Gupta on Whyalla

Australia’s federal government is in regular talks with steel magnate Sanjeev Gupta amid concerns the Whyalla Steelworks could fall victim to the cascading insolvency crisis involving supply chain finance firm Greensill.

Minister for Industry Karen Andrews said the government was closely monitoring GFG Alliance given the importance of the Whyalla Steelworks in terms of local jobs, but also due to its connections to supply steel for major projects such as the $10 billion inland rail project and Navy frigates.
