The Federal Court has thrown out proceedings brought by the corporate watchdog against the Commonwealth Bank for allegedly charging monthly account fees to customers entitled to a waiver, including pensioners, migrants and war veterans.

Justice Kylie Downes of the Federal Court of Australia in Queensland on Tuesday ruled that the Australian Securities and Investments Commission “failed to establish” that the bank had breached financial services laws.
