Banks cite emissions data problems in reaching net zero pledges

Australian banks have adopted a similar stance to their United States counterparts, calling for more alignment on reporting gaps including from their biggest emitting customers after the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed mandating that banks disclose their financed emissions this week.

The Australian banks are waiting for the Council of Financial Regulators to determine the rules governing green disclosures later this year, but would be heavily influenced by any US move.
