CFMEU official used super fund money to help union, alleges APRA
First Super co-chair and long-time CFMEU boss Michael O’Connor used the forestry superannuation fund to bankroll the salary of an official at the union, the prudential regulator alleges.
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority claimed Mr O’Connor, who is the national secretary of the CFMEU’s manufacturing division, hired a union employee to work full-time for the super fund despite knowing they were still doing “a significant portion of work” for the CFMEU.
