Unrealistic gas price caps not the answer, producers say
East coast gas producers have warned that any move to impose “unrealistic” pricing on the domestic gas market would work against the need to increase supply, but manufacturers insist prices are unsustainable and measures are needed to enable them to compete.
Manufacturers’ suggestions for intervention to help resolve the problem include domestic gas reservation and a super-profits tax to raise proceeds to be redistributed to businesses, as well as a temporary price cap.
