Origin Energy chief executive Frank Calabria has singled out delays to the build-out of the transmission grid as the single biggest hurdle to Australia’s energy transition – and called for an “honest” discussion with the community on the need for new gas power.

Mr Calabria said the “Herculean” task of the transition needed better co-ordination across all levels of government to save money and time to support the expansion of renewable energy, with local communities brought along on the journey of building the infrastructure required.
