Queensland sweetens landowner payments to accelerate energy transition
Queensland will offer landowners who agree to allow high-voltage transmission cables across their properties an average $300,000 per kilometre, making it Australia’s most generous payment scheme to accelerate the development of its energy transition.
Transmission lines are shaping up as the biggest bottleneck in Australia’s plan to substitute power generation away from a reliance on coal because their development has been hampered by funding constraints and community opposition.
