Origin Energy chief executive Frank Calabria has called for a fresh attempt to comprehensively redesign the National Electricity Market, this time leaving behind the “unhelpful rhetoric” that derailed the last effort.

It is needed to give confidence to companies to invest in long-lived power plants such as peaking gas power stations, which would be vitally important to keep the lights on in an increasingly renewables-reliant market, he said.
