Global miner Anglo American has approved the construction of the $US1.7 billion Grosvenor coking coal project in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, which could produce 5 million tonnes of coal from an underground longwall operation. First development coal is expected in 2013 with the commissioning of the longwall in 2016, contingent on the release of appropriate licences and permits. The mining lease is expected in the first quarter of 2012. Jamie Freed
Santos and partner Apache have delivered natural gas from the offshore Reindeer field in the Carnarvon Basin to the Dampier to Bunbury natural gas pipeline for the first time. The gas was processed at the new onshore Devil Creek plant near Karratha, which is the third domestic gas processing plant in Western Australia. Jamie Freed
