The intensity of the political crossfire from the climate wars that have dominated Canberra for so long has actually receded a little for this election.
Scott Morrison’s rhetoric has belatedly altered dramatically from 2019 when the Coalition dismissed the notion of a commitment to net zero emissions by 2050 as economically irresponsible, for example. Nor will the Prime Minister repeat his mocking criticism of Labor’s electric vehicle policy for “stealing the weekend” away from all those tradies and ute-owners no longer able to tow their boats and caravans. Now it’s all about technology – though, naturally, never taxes – driving the inevitable transition to renewables.
