Australia’s energy market operator has executed emergency measures to prevent blackouts across Queensland as record demand for electricity due to hot, humid weather strains the National Electricity Market.

The Australian Energy Market Operator said it has executed option agreements with major users to lower demand on the grid between 5.30pm (6.30pm AEDT) and 9.30pm (10.30pm AEDT) to ensure sufficient supplies.
