AJ Lucas gives up on British fracking ambition

London | Australian mining services company AJ Lucas has relinquished its ambitions to become the first shale gas producer in Britain, acknowledging defeat in a two-year battle with Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government.

The ASX-listed company will order its British subsidiary, Cuadrilla, to plug and abandon the two wells it had sunk at the Preston New Road site in northern England, dormant since a government-imposed moratorium on fracking in November 2019.
