AGL profit slides 21.5pc as headwinds hit

AGL Energy has flagged an unexpectedly steep further slide in benchmark profit this coming year after tough market conditions and a generator outage sent profit down 21.5 per cent for 2019-20.
Underlying net profit after tax for 2020-21 should be between $560 million and $660 million, down from $816 million for 2020, AGL said, pointing also to rising bad debts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
