While banking and retail sectors wallow in the depths of the coronavirus rout, sturdy utility stocks like electricity generator and retailer AGL have been relatively unscathed.

But analysts said the long-term effects of the economic downturn could push up wholesale electricity prices if investment in new sources of power generation dried up and the grid continued to depend on extending the lives of ageing and less reliable coal power plants.
