Australasian airlines are experimenting with a combination of fuel-saving measures but are yet to find the silver bullet needed to meet ambitious carbon reduction targets.
Powering planes with fuel made out of plants, altering flight paths to reduce engine thrust for more economical landings and reducing weight by sucking out moisture exhaled by passengers are among the radical steps being taken to improve fuel efficiency.
