Poison chalice for farmers overwhelmed by mice plague
Farmers in NSW have been hamstrung in the fight against the mice plague with their only chemical weapon too weak and now in short supply.
“A week ago we were going flat out, but we’re out of tech,” says Farmer and mouse bait producer Mark Schilling of the effort to stop the mice plague. “It is hard to come by at the minute.”
Mark Schilling would like to be making tonnes of mouse bait right now to help fellow farmers save what’s left of their just-planted crops.
But he’s run out of zinc phosphide, the killer ingredient added to grain to make his Last Supper-brand mouse bait.
