Kimberley cattle feed producer Phillip Hams says that if the Fitzroy River bridge is destroyed in Western Australia’s floods, the economic and logistical impact on the region would be like the Sydney Harbour Bridge collapsing.

Heavy rain dumped by ex-tropical cyclone Ellie led to once-in-a-century flooding at Fitzroy Crossing, in the state’s north-east, prompting the evacuation of the remote town and dozens of Indigenous communities.
